Privacy policy

What we collect

Nothing directly, on most pages. Placemattress is a set of pre-rendered static files with no database, no login, no comments and no server-side processing of anything you do.

The two exceptions:

• Newsletter. If you enter an email address in the subscribe form, it is sent to our email service provider and used only to send the monthly newsletter. One click unsubscribes. We do not sell, rent or share the list.
• Analytics. We use a privacy-preserving, cookieless analytics service that records page views and referrers in aggregate. It does not set cookies, does not fingerprint devices, and cannot identify you.

Affiliate links

When you click a link to a retailer, that retailer may set a cookie in your browser to attribute a purchase to us. That cookie is set by the retailer, on their domain, under their privacy policy — not ours. We receive only aggregate commission reports, never your name, address or payment details.

Outbound affiliate links are marked in the page HTML with rel="sponsored nofollow noopener", and our affiliate disclosure lists every programme we belong to.

Cookies we set

One item of browser local storage, pm-theme, remembering whether you chose the light or dark theme. It is not a cookie, is never transmitted to any server, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Fonts and third-party requests

Typefaces are self-hosted and served from our own domain, so loading a page does not tell any third party that you visited. Pages make no requests to advertising networks, social widgets or tag managers.

Your rights

If you are in the EU, UK or California, you have the right to access, correct or delete any personal data we hold about you. In practice the only personal data we can hold is a newsletter email address. Email hello@placemattress.com and we will action a deletion within seven days.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page changes and the change is described here rather than silently applied.
