The short version

Placemattress participates in affiliate programs, including those of Saatva, WinkBeds, Helix Sleep, DreamCloud, Nectar and Brooklyn Bedding. When you buy a mattress through a link on this site, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. Commissions fund our testing. They do not determine which mattresses we test, how we score them, or the order in which they appear. Prices and terms are those published by the retailer at the time of writing and may have changed.

Which programmes we belong to

We are currently members of the affiliate programmes operated by the following brands, either directly or through a network. Every outbound link to these retailers on this site is a tracked affiliate link, marked in the HTML with rel="sponsored nofollow".

• Saatva — A luxury innerspring specialist that never went bed-in-a-box.
• WinkBeds — A small Wisconsin manufacturer that builds hybrids for people who have sagged out cheaper mattresses.
• Helix Sleep — A wide range of hybrids sorted by sleeping position rather than by price tier.
• DreamCloud — Resolution Brands’ value hybrid line.
• Nectar — The volume memory-foam brand.
• Brooklyn Bedding — A factory-direct manufacturer that has been building mattresses since 1995.

What commission does not buy

It does not buy a review, a ranking, a score, an award, or a position in a comparison table. It does not buy advance sight of an article, the right to comment on one before publication, or the removal of a criticism after it. No brand has ever been given any of these things, and if one were, this page would say so.

Commission rates differ between brands, sometimes by a factor of two. Our highest-scoring mattress pays us less than the mattress in third place. We mention this not because it makes us virtuous but because it is checkable: if our rankings tracked commission, the order would be different.

How we acquire mattresses

Most are bought at full retail price with our own money. Where a manufacturer supplies a review unit, it is accepted only without conditions — no editorial input, no approval rights, no obligation to publish. Around one in five mattresses we test never gets a review, and supplied units are no more likely to be published than purchased ones.

Every review states how the mattress was acquired. If it was supplied, the review says so at the top.

Prices

Prices shown on this site are those published by the retailer on the date stated beside them and are checked monthly. Mattress pricing in this category is volatile and several brands run near-permanent discounts, so treat any figure here as an indication rather than a quote. The price you pay is the one shown at the retailer’s checkout.

FTC compliance

This disclosure exists to comply with the United States Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR Part 255 guidance on endorsements and testimonials. A short version appears on every page that carries an affiliate link, above the first link rather than buried in the footer.
